The first ella forums for Emerging Leaders Group launched on Tuesday 17th November at the Islington Business Design Centre. We were delighted to be joined by a wide range of organisations from across the charity sector including The Rainbow Trust, Stevenage Leisure, Visit Britain and Rare Adventures.
Brian Chernett, Founder and Executive Chair of ella was the guest speaker on his topic; ‘People Matter’. Brian looked at some HR aspects around hiring and addressed some interesting questions including ‘do you use open questions when interviewing?’ and ‘do you get the candidate to understand the companies purpose, values and behaviours?’.
A take away for the group from the talk was an alternative method of doing annual appraisals. Brian recommends getting the employee to fill in a person action and accountability form which they report back to you on once a month in a 20 minute Forum and as a manager you coach them through their actions and what they have and haven’t succeeded in doing.
We then moved on to the peer group learning session where as a group we asked questions and offered solutions to two members issues, challenges or opportunities. As always this was done under Chatham House Rules.
We are really looking forward to the next Forum and hearing back how the members got on when they took their learning back to the office.
The next ella for Emerging Leaders Forum will be held on the
9am – 1.30pm
Islington Business Design Centre, 52 Upper Street, London, N1 0QH
To come along as a guest please email the group Chair Ellie – email@example.com. Ellie was an Emerging Leader of a charity and in that role was an ella member for two years. In her current role as Communications Director for ella she felt it really important that there would be an opportunity for all Third Sector Emerging Leaders to benefit from ella as she did.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Islington Business Design Centre for once again supporting ella and giving us the venue free of charge to host this Forum and to all the Emerging Leaders that came along and contributed to an excellent first Forum. We look forward to seeing you all next month!
